Terms and Conditions
Last updated: July 25, 2026
Welcome to The Business Places. These Terms and Conditions (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of this website and the business directory we provide (together, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. About the Service
The Business Places is an online directory that helps people discover local businesses across Canada. Listings are compiled from publicly available sources and from information submitted by business owners and other users. The Service is provided for general information purposes only.
2. No endorsement
The inclusion of any business, product, or service in the directory does not constitute or imply our endorsement, recommendation, certification, or approval of that business, product, or service. We do not vet, license, or continuously monitor the businesses that appear in the directory, and a listing should not be treated as a recommendation by us.
3. No warranty — information provided “as is”
The directory and all information in it are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. While we try to keep information useful and current, we make no warranties or representations of any kind, express or implied, about the Service or about any business listed in it, including as to:
- the accuracy, completeness, currency, or reliability of any listing, contact detail, description, rating, or review;
- the quality, safety, legality, licensing, qualifications, or fitness of any listed business or its products or services;
- the availability of any business, or that any business will meet your requirements; and
- merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement,
all of which are expressly disclaimed to the fullest extent permitted by law.
4. Your dealings with listed businesses
Any contact, communication, transaction, or dealing you have with a business you find through the Service is solely between you and that business. We are not a party to those dealings and take no responsibility for them. You are responsible for making your own enquiries and exercising your own judgment — including confirming licensing, insurance, credentials, pricing, and terms — before engaging any business. We strongly recommend you verify any information that matters to you directly with the business.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, The Business Places, together with its owners, employees, agents, and suppliers, will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to:
- your access to, use of, or inability to use the Service;
- your reliance on any information obtained through the Service; or
- any interaction, transaction, or dispute with any business listed in the directory,
whether based in contract, tort (including negligence), or any other legal theory, and whether or not we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the maximum extent permitted.
6. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Business Places and its owners, employees, and agents from and against any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service or your breach of these Terms.
7. Listings, corrections, and removal
If you are the owner of, or an authorized representative for, a business that appears in the directory and you would like a listing corrected, updated, claimed, or removed, please use our contact form and we will address your request within a reasonable time. We may add, edit, decline, or remove any listing at our discretion.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to: scrape, harvest, or bulk-collect data except as expressly permitted; post false, misleading, defamatory, or unlawful content; impersonate any person or business; interfere with or disrupt the Service; or use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
9. Intellectual property
The Business Places name, design, layout, original text, and graphics are owned by The Business Places and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Business names and other third-party marks remain the property of their respective owners. Certain directory data is derived from open data sources under their respective licences.
10. Third-party links
The Service contains links to third-party websites that we do not control. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of those websites, and a link does not imply endorsement.
11. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may modify the Service or these Terms at any time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the “Last updated” date will be revised. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.
13. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent through our contact form.
